two different entities with one shared mission: to help bridge the gap in healthcare
Sadly, we live in a world that is driven by money and power. It is not a conspiracy that the healthcare industry wants us to be on as many medications as possible and profits off us being sick. Why take the time to teach individuals about making changes to their diet/lifestyle when prescribing a medication can ‘treat’ the issue much quicker (while simultaneously increasing profits for the businesses involved)?
It is not a secret that the U.S. healthcare system is severely flawed and that there are millions of Americans that live without access to healthcare. The result? Individuals living without health insurance may not be able to access high-quality medical care as quickly, which can lead to poor quality care and mortality that could have been prevented if treated early on. This large gap in healthcare coverage also has a significant negative impact on the overall economy, as healthcare costs are higher due to the decrease in individuals that are able to work, earn, and contribute to the economy.
The shining light? There are more and more individuals and healthcare facilities popping up that recognize that there is a significant gap in healthcare coverage, that make it their mission to help bridge that gap. An example? Helping Hands Wellness Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Helping Hands Wellness Center has made it their mission to help bridge the gap in healthcare by providing free medical services to those that qualify in Kalamazoo. To qualify for their services individuals must meet one of the following criteria:
1) Don’t have health insurance.
2) Homeless or using transitional housing.
3) Receiving housing or food assistance.
4)Family income is below 250% of federal poverty guidelines.
Helping Hands Wellness Center takes a holistic approach when treating individuals… their goal is to prioritize treating the root cause of symptoms through holistic measures (diet, exercise, sleep, stress level management, etc.) while keeping medications on the back burner and only prescribing them on an as-needed basis. Nicole Baker Nutrition LLC shares that same mission.
Two different entities, one shared mission, collaborating with the goal of improving the overall health and wellness of Kalamazoo community, one individual at a time.
Let’s all work together to bridge that gap in healthcare!
